About Artist

He was one of Iran's most renowned calligraphers, painters, and poets. His birthplace was the city of Herat. As he worked as a child in his father's restaurant, he earned the nickname Tabbah (cook).

Most sources identify him as Jafar Tabrizi's student in the six calligraphic styles. His initial education began in Herat and was completed in Baghdad.


Abdullah Tabbah is considered to be one of the followers of Yâqût and one of the pioneer calligraphers of this style in Iran in thuluth and naskh calligraphy. He was also an accomplished artist in the fields of illumination and muraqqa-making. He composed numerous jali inscriptions in Herat's Ghazurgah and Mashhad. In 2016, his famous mushaf, written in both thuluth and naskh, was published in Iran.

He died in Herat in 880 AH. Among his most well-known students were Hafiz Futa'yi, Mahmud-u Katib, and Abdullah-u Murwarid.

İran`ın meşhur hattat, ressam ve şairlerindendir. Herat şehrinde doğdu. Gençliğinde babasının lokantasında çalıştığı için, Tabbah (Aşçı) lâkabı ile anılmıştır. 

Kaynakların çoğu onu aklâm-ı sitte`de Cafer Tebrizi'nin talebesi olarak kaydetmektedir. İlk tahsiline Herat`ta başlamış daha sonra Bağdat`ta tamamlamıştır.

Abdullah Tabbah, İran`da sülüs ve nesih hatlarında Yakut'un takipçilerinden ve bu tarzın öncü hattatlarından sayılır. Aynı zamanda tezhip sanatında ve murakka yapımında mahir bir sanatkârmış. Herat`ın Gâzürgah`ında ve Meşhed`de çok sayıda celi kitabeler yazmıştır. Sülüs ve nesihle yazdığı meşhur mushafı 2016 yılında İran'da basılmıştır.

Hicri 880 yılında Herat`ta vefat etmiştir. Hafız Fute'yi, Mahmud-u Katib ve Abdullah-ı Murvarid onun en bilinen  talebelerindendir.
