About Artist
Born in 1968 in Zonguldak, Ali Rıza Özcan
graduated from Mimar Sinan University
of Fine Arts, Department of Traditional
Turkish Arts. He completed his masters
with a dissertation entitled “Illumination
Examples from the Holy Qurans of the
Classical Age” and received his proficiency
in art with the work entitled “Turkish
Nastaliq School”. He studied riq’a, diwani,
jaly diwani and taliq scripts with Prof. Ali
Alparslan, and obtained his certificate
in thuluth-naskh from Hüseyin Kutlu.
His teacher in illumination (tezhib) is
Dr. Tahsin Aykutalp. He participated in
numerous exhibitions and received awards
in local and international competitions.
Currently is the head of the Calligraphy
Department of Traditional Turkish Arts
Faculty, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
