About Artist
He was born in Edirne as the son of Hafiz Ibrahim Efendi, the imam of the Muradiyye Mosque in Edirne. Due to this connection, he was also known by the nicknames "Hafizzade" and "Imamzade." He studied calligraphy under Seyyid Mehmed Efendi, the imam of Balaban Pasha, and received his ijazah. Later, he spent some time in Istanbul, benefiting from various calligraphers. Upon his father's death, he returned to Edirne and assumed the imamate of the Muradiyye Mosque, following in his father's footsteps.
Mehmed Efendi was known to be a successor of Ömer Dede, one of the sheikhs of the Mevlevi Order. It is reported that in his later years, he obtained the post at the Güzelhisar Mevlevi Lodge and passed away there in 1212 AH / 1797-1798 AD while engaged in spiritual guidance. However, Ahmed Badi Efendi states that he died after 1214 AH / 1799 AD and was buried in the cemetery of the Muradiyye Mosque.
