Born in 1959 in Tlemcen, Mohammed
Behiri graduated from the College of Fine
Arts in Algiers, Department of Oil Painting
and obtained a BA and an MA from the
Department of Classical Islamic Arts of
Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul.
He gave calligraphy and painting courses
in the United Arab Emirates and worked in
al-Balqa Applied University and the World
Islamic Sciences and Education University,
Jordan. Behiri opened an atelier for
calligraphy, illumination and sized paper
for calligraphic writing in Jordan where
he wrote calligraphy plates for members
of Jordan’s Royal Family including the
inscriptions on the walls of the Masjid of
King Hussain bin Talal. He also directed
the writing and decoration of Princess
Haya bint al-Hussain’s Qur’an copy and
wrote parts of it in the muhaqqaq style.
He chaired the Department of Islamic
Arts of the College of Fine Arts in Algiers
and taught at the University of Abou Bekr
Belkaïd. Currently he is teaching at İSMEK,
Istanbul.
