About Artist

Osman Çiçek was born in Turkey’s eastern province of Erzurum in 1982. He memorized the Quran and studied Arabic and Islamic catechism during his madrasah training that lasted from 1994 until 1999. He also cultivated many hafizes. In 1997, he started studying the art of calligraphy with prominent calligrapher Abdullah Gün. He also practiced the calligraphy styles of thuluth, naskh and riq’a with Davut Bektaş. He received his master’s degree at the traditional arts calligraphy department of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University in 2011. Çiçek carried out both theoretical and practical studies with Prof. Dr. M. Hüsrev Subaşı in this area. Çiçek perfected his art by inscribing on belts and on the domes of many mosques. He restored scripts on the windows of the Fatih Mosque in 2011 and the Süleymaniye Mosque in 2012. He still teaches calligraphy at various courses.
