About Artist

There is not much information about the life of Abdullah Amâsî, a relative of Sheikh Hamdullah and the son of the calligrapher Jalal Amâsî, other than the fact that he was from Amasya and that he had received a license for calligraphy from his father. Although he died in Istanbul, where he migrated upon the invitation of Sultan Bayezid II, the date and place of his death are unknown. Based on the date of his last work, it is understood that he was alive in AH 924/ AD 1518. It is reported that Abdullah Amâsî was a Sufi, spent his life writing and practicing asceticism, and was around eighty years old at the time of his death. Initially following in his father's footsteps and writing in the Yāqūt style, Abdullah Amāsī was later influenced by Sheikh Hamdullah and tried to create a unique style of his own, but he remained a dry valley in the face of Sheikh Hamdullah's style.
