Arda Çakmak
About Artist
Arda Çakmak was born in 1977, in Istanbul.
Çakmak graduated from the School of Fine
Arts, the Department of Traditional Turkish
Handicrafts at Mimar Sinan University
where he studied Islamic calligraphy and
illumination under the supervisions of Ali
Alparslan and Tahsin Aykutalp. He also
participated in the taliq classes of Prof. Uğur
Derman. Çakmak teaches illumination
at Classical Turkish Arts Foundation,
miniature at Tûze Art Gallery and tutors
private courses on Islamic calligraphy.
Çakmak received Achievement Award in
Illumination Competition organized by the
Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and
Tourism (1996), Grand Prize with Khurde
Taliq in Hilya Sharif Competition organized
by Antik Inc. (2005), the Second Prize in
Jaly Taliq in the International Competition
organized by Albaraka Türk (2005), and
Special Award in Illumination in Al Burda
Competition (2008).
