About Artist
Mustafa Sharmi Efendi, the son of Ibrahim Afif Efendi—a calligrapher who passed away on May 30, 1809, while serving as the Grand Vizier's Steward—was an erudite member of the professorial corps. He died in 1812 and was interred next to his father, who was buried near the Küçük Emir Dervish Lodge in Eyüp. Mustafa Sharmi Efendi studied the art of calligraphy under his father, a distinguished Qur'an scribe. However, the absence of any extant works attributed to Mustafa Sharmi Efendi suggests that he did not actively pursue calligraphy as a profession or avocation.
